<\/figure>\n\n\n\nProfessor Victoria Ladi Lawal of the Department<\/strong> of Social Science Education, Library and<\/strong> Information Science Unit, Faculty of Education,<\/strong> University of Jos<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Professor Lawal, a renowned expert in Library and Information Science, was selected from a pool of candidates interviewed by the university\u2019s Selection Board. Her appointment marks a milestone in the university\u2019s history, as she becomes the first female Professor of Library and Information Science in the University of Jos and in Plateau State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Until her appointment, Professor Lawal was a lecturer with the Library and Information Science Unit, Department of Social Science Education, Faculty of Education, University of Jos. She has a wealth of experience in library management, having worked in the University of Jos Library from 1995 to 2016, where she headed different sections, including Technical and Support Services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Professor Lawal holds a Bachelor\u2019s degree in Library Science from the University of Maiduguri, a Master\u2019s degree in Law and Diplomacy from the University of Jos, a Master of Library Science from the University of Cape Town, South Africa, and a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. She has also served as a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Fort Hare, South Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n A prolific researcher, Professor Lawal has published widely and presented her papers in different countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, and other African countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The university community is optimistic that Professor Lawal\u2019s appointment will bring about significant developments in the university\u2019s library services, given her wealth of experience and expertise in library management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The appointment was announced by the university\u2019s Senior Deputy Registrar (Information & Publications), Abdullahi Abdullahi, in a statement dated February 7, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" The University of Jos has appointed Professor Victoria Ladi Lawal as its new University Librarian for a five-year term.
