The Delta State College of Nursing Sciences has issued a disciplinary query to a student nurse, Osato Edobor, for allegedly recording and posting an \u201cunauthorized\u201d video on social media during the visit of Nigeria\u2019s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, to Delta State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A copy of the letter, signed by the institution\u2019s provost, Evbodaghe Rita Ogonne, and dated March 27, 2025, was shared online by journalist Oseni Rufai. The letter accused Edobor of engaging in a \u201cmalicious act\u201d by recording herself singing and posting an \u201cunofficial response\u201d to a song during the First Lady\u2019s arrival at the Dome Event Centre in Asaba as part of the Renewed Hope Initiative Health Programme, where 10,000 professional kits were distributed to midwives in the South-South region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the school, her actions violated the Student Handbook under Standardized Disciplinary Action No. 8, Page 21, making it a punishable offense. Edobor was directed to submit a written explanation within 24 hours justifying why disciplinary action should not be taken against her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The disciplinary move follows a viral video showing nursing students at the event rejecting the First Lady as their \u201cmother.\u201d The controversy arose when the event\u2019s Master of Ceremony introduced Oluremi Tinubu as \u201ceveryone\u2019s mother,\u201d a customary title for First Ladies in Nigeria. However, the students responded in unison, \u201cNa your mama be this,\u201d meaning \u201cThis is your mother,\u201d indicating their refusal to accept the designation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
