If you are planning to gain admission into LASU, this is very important news for you. The school has changed how it scores candidates during the admission screening process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before now, LASU used a method called&nbsp;<strong>50\/50 grading<\/strong>. This means that your JAMB (UTME) score was 50% of your screening score, and your O\u2019Level results (WAEC\/NECO) made up the other 50%.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But now,&nbsp;<strong>LASU has introduced a new grading system called the 60\/40 format<\/strong>. In this new method:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>60% of your screening score will come from your UTME (JAMB) score<\/strong>, and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>40% will come from your O\u2019Level results<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This means your JAMB score now has more weight than before. So if you want to get into LASU, you must take your JAMB exam very seriously!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What Is the 60\/40 Grading System?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Let\u2019s explain this with simple math.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you score&nbsp;<strong>280 in JAMB<\/strong>, here\u2019s how it will be calculated:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>First, divide your JAMB score (280) by 400 (the highest possible JAMB score):\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>280 \u00f7 400 = 0.7<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Then multiply by 60 (because JAMB now counts for 60%):\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>0.7 \u00d7 60 =\u00a0<strong>42<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So, from your JAMB score, you get&nbsp;<strong>42 points<\/strong>&nbsp;out of 60.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Next, your O\u2019Level grades are scored out of 40 points. If you did well and got good grades like A1 and B2 in your 5 best subjects, you might get something like&nbsp;<strong>35 points<\/strong>&nbsp;out of 40.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A1 \u2013\u00a0 8<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>B2 \u2013 7<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>B3 \u2013 6<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>C4 \u2013 5<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>C5 \u2013 4<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>C6 \u2013 3<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now, add the two together:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>42 (JAMB) + 35 (O\u2019Level) =\u00a0<strong>77% screening score<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This 77% becomes your final score for LASU\u2019s admission screening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Important Update: Two Sittings Rule<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">LASU has also introduced a new rule for students who are using&nbsp;<strong>two sittings<\/strong>&nbsp;for their O\u2019Level results. Two sittings mean you are combining results from two different exams, like WAEC + NECO or WAEC + another WAEC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Here\u2019s the new rule:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For every subject you present from a second sitting,&nbsp;<strong>0.3 marks will be removed<\/strong>&nbsp;from the total score.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">So if you are using two sittings and you have 5 required subjects, you will lose:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>0.3 \u00d7 5 =\u00a0<strong>1.5 marks<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example, if your total score before deduction is 77, then:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>77 \u2013 1.5 =\u00a0<strong>75.5<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This new rule encourages students to try and get all their required O\u2019Level subjects in&nbsp;<strong>one sitting<\/strong>, if possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"720\" height=\"938\" src=\"https:\/\/giftconsult.com.ng\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-06-30-at-16.33.54_53b0d403.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2154\" srcset=\"https:\/\/giftconsult.com.ng\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-06-30-at-16.33.54_53b0d403.jpg 720w, https:\/\/giftconsult.com.ng\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-06-30-at-16.33.54_53b0d403-230x300.jpg 230w, https:\/\/giftconsult.com.ng\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/WhatsApp-Image-2025-06-30-at-16.33.54_53b0d403-600x782.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 720px) 100vw, 720px\" \/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>LASU Changes Admission Screening Method: Now Uses 60\/40 Grading System The Lagos State University (LASU) has announced a new way of calculating scores for admission.
