LASU BANS UNAUTHORISED FILMING AND DRONE OPERATIONS OVER OFFENSIVE CONTENT

Lagos State University (LASU) has issued a strict directive regulating the use of its campuses for content creation, following growing concerns over videos deemed offensive and damaging to the institution’s image.

In a statement released on Friday, December 12, 2025, the university expressed displeasure over the increasing number of students and outsiders producing “offensive and inappropriate” content—such as skits, vox pops, short films, and promotional clips—within its premises without proper approval. According to LASU, these activities undermine the values of a “citadel of learning and character development.”

The directive, signed by Oluwayemisi A. Thomas-Onashile, Deputy Registrar and Coordinator of the Centre for Information and Public Relations (CIPR), mandates that all students, staff, and members of the public must obtain official clearance from CIPR before engaging in any form of cinematographic or recording activity on campus. Approvals are to be processed at the CIPR office on the 3rd Floor, Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building, Main Campus, Ojo.

“While the University encourages creativity and responsible self-expression, it has become evident that some of the content being produced are offensive, inappropriate, and misrepresent the values and image of the institution,” the statement said.

Additionally, LASU announced a ban on drone operations across all campuses unless explicitly approved by the Security Department. This measure aims to enhance safety, protect privacy, and maintain order within university spaces, including hostels and other facilities.

The institution emphasized its commitment to safeguarding its reputation and ensuring that activities on its grounds reflect its core values.
