LASU Matriculates 14,893 Freshers, VC Emphasizes Strict Stance Against Misconduct

Lagos State University on Monday, December 1st, officially inducted 14,893 newly admitted undergraduates into the 2025/2026 academic session. The Vice Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, encouraged the fresh students to uphold good conduct, remain focused, and strive for outstanding performance throughout their stay in the university.

During the colourful ceremony held at the LASU Ojo campus, the VC expressed gratitude to God and warmly congratulated the students, noting that they were chosen from over 70,000 candidates who applied to the institution. She described LASU as the “University of First Choice,” highlighting its ranking as the Best University in West Africa by UI Greenmetrics and the Most Digitally Innovative University in Nigeria for 2025.

Professor Olatunji-Bello assured the new intakes that the university is fully committed to their academic success, safety, and overall wellbeing. She stated that robust security structures have been implemented on campus and urged students to quickly report any suspicious actions or threats to the appropriate authorities.

Reaffirming LASU’s mission to nurture future leaders, the Vice Chancellor stressed that the institution places a premium on character, discipline, responsibility, and global readiness. She advised the students to remain dedicated to their studies and follow all university rules.

The VC strongly warned against activities such as cultism, exam malpractice, indecent dressing, corruption, and hooliganism, emphasizing that LASU maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy toward misconduct. She also highlighted the university’s unwavering stand against sexual and gender-based violence, noting the establishment of the Directorate of Response and Prevention of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence. She encouraged students to speak up, saying, “If you see something, say something.”

Professor Olatunji-Bello expressed confidence that the newly admitted students will complete their programmes on schedule and return in four to five years’ time for their convocation ceremonies.

The matriculation event had in attendance members of the university management, faculty deans, directors of centres, academic and non-academic staff, parents, guardians, and friends of the university.
