The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially announced the closing dates for the 2026 admission process for universities, polytechnics, and private tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
The deadlines were revealed during the 2026 admission policy discussions as part of measures to ensure institutions conclude their admission exercises within the approved academic timeline.
APPROVED 2026 ADMISSION DEADLINES
According to JAMB, institutions are expected to complete their admissions on or before the following dates:
- Federal and State Universities — 31st October 2026
- Private Universities and Other Private Tertiary Institutions — 30th November 2026
- Federal and State Polytechnics — 31st December 2026
The deadlines will guide institutions in processing admissions through the JAMB Central Admission Processing System (CAPS).
WHAT CANDIDATES SHOULD DO
Candidates seeking admission for the 2026/2027 academic session are advised to remain active throughout the admission period and complete all necessary requirements on time.
Candidates are encouraged to:
- Regularly check their JAMB CAPS portal
- Upload O’Level results if not yet uploaded
- Accept admission immediately once offered
- Participate in Post-UTME or screening exercises promptly
- Ensure all credentials and documents are complete
Failure to stay updated may lead to missed admission opportunities before institutions close their admission portals.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
Although JAMB has announced the general deadlines, institutions still have the authority to determine:
- Their Post-UTME screening dates
- Departmental cut-off marks
- Supplementary admission exercises
- Internal screening procedures
Candidates are therefore advised to closely monitor official updates from their institutions of choice.
FINAL NOTE
The announcement of the admission deadlines is aimed at ensuring a smoother, more organized, and timely admission process across Nigerian tertiary institutions.
Candidates are strongly advised not to wait until the final weeks before taking important admission-related actions.
