What is JAMB and why do you need it?
JAMB means Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board. It is the government body that controls who gets into universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education in Nigeria.
Before you can gain admission into any tertiary school in Nigeria, you must:
- Register with JAMB
- Write the UTME exam (Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination). It is a computer-based test.
- Score above the minimum cut-off mark for your chosen school and course
No JAMB means no admission. Even private universities require it.
From the day you first register to the day you finally get admitted, there are 9 steps. Most students only know the first one or two. The ones they don't know are where things go wrong.

Buy School Form and Sit Post-UTME
Every school sells its own form and has its own deadline. This is the step most people get confused at.
Admission List, Acceptance Fee, and Clearance
When your name appears on the admission list, you have a limited window to accept and pay. Miss it and the slot goes to someone else.

Yes, NIN is required for profile code generation.
JAMB's official fees are fixed. UTME without the mock exam is N7,200. With the mock it is N8,700. Direct Entry is N5,700. Those amounts go directly to JAMB and do not change regardless of where you register. If you register through an agent or a service like Gift Consult, it is N12,000 because there is a service fee on top. That fee covers things like confirming your subject combination, checking your school's cut-off requirements, and making sure nothing goes wrong during registration. Most students who try to do it alone get at least one of those things wrong.
You can generate your profile code by sending an SMS from anywhere. But the actual registration, which includes your photograph and fingerprint capture, must be done in person at a JAMB-accredited CBT centre. One thing you can do before going is buy your e-PIN in advance. Most centres sell e-PINs on the spot, but that means joining a second queue before you can even start registration. If you buy yours from us before you go, you skip that queue entirely and go straight to registration when you arrive.
This is the most common place students get stuck. After JAMB results drop, you still need to pick which school forms to buy, register for Post-UTME, watch the admission list, pay the acceptance fee, and complete clearance. Every step has a deadline. We handle all of this for N10,000 from the day results come out until the day you clear.
CAPS means Central Admissions Processing System. It is the part of the JAMB portal where universities officially offer you admission. You also accept or reject offers there. Your O'Level result must be on CAPS too. If a university tells you verbally that you have been admitted but you have not accepted on CAPS, the admission is not confirmed yet.
Direct Entry is a separate JAMB programme for people who already have an ND, NCE, HND, A-Level, or First Degree. Instead of writing the UTME, you apply to enter university at 200 Level directly. Read the full guide at /jamb/direct-entry.
