The Governor of Lagos State and Visitor to Lagos State University, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has approved the appointment of His Royal Majesty, Oba Olufolarin Olukayode Ogunsanwo, as the 6th Chancellor of Lagos State University.

Oba Ogunsanwo, the Alara of Ilara, succeeds Gbolahan Elias, SAN, who served as the 5th Chancellor of the University. The Lagos State Government and the University community expressed appreciation for Elias’ meritorious service and the dignified manner in which he represented the institution throughout his tenure.
According to the official statement, the appointment was made in accordance with the provisions of the Lagos State University Law 2004 (as amended), which empowers the Visitor to appoint the Chancellor of the University.
The new Chancellor’s appointment takes effect from Friday, 13th February 2026. He will serve a single term of five years, renewable once.
The Pro-Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor congratulated Oba Ogunsanwo on the distinguished honour and expressed confidence in his leadership and commitment to advancing the University’s vision and mission.
