If You Are Not a Lagos State Indigene, Getting Into LASU Is Harder Than You Think

LASU gives a large portion of its admission spaces to Lagos State indigenes. If you are not an indigene, you are competing for fewer spaces than you think. We help students understand how LASU’s admission really works and pick the course that gives them the best chance.

Why Should You Trust What We Say About School Admission?

Since 2023, we have helped students gain admission across 50+ universities in Nigeria including LASU, UNILAG, UI, FUOYE, and LASUED. The testimonials below are from real students and parents we have worked with.

My journey with Gift Consult began with a chat on WhatsApp on information about various universities Post UTME stuff. I was happy on one part but scared on the part because of trust. But I still went ahead following him up with a strong mind of believe in him even though we had never met before. Gift Consult helped my two sons in every steps of their admission process easily and smoothly with prompt information, No-Stress Payments, etc. I give him 100/100 for his efforts that made my sons' dream come true.

I can't really remember how I get gift Consult's contact but one thing I know is that I've never regretted choosing him as my consultant. My admission process was very smooth and I'm really grateful for that. I didn't have any issues with my admission processing, from screening to lacaca clearance to all my payments. It was very smooth and I highly recommended gift consult for any jambite and aspirant this year.

Here Is How LASU Actually Decides Who Gets In

After your JAMB result comes out, LASU opens a screening registration window. LASU calculates an aggregate score using two things: your JAMB score (which counts for 60%) and your O’Level grades (which count for 40%). That aggregate is what determines whether you get admitted.

This means your O’Level results carry serious weight at LASU. If your grades are weak, even a strong JAMB score will not be enough to push your aggregate above the students you are competing with. Students who used two sittings for their O’Level also get a small deduction from their aggregate, which can make a difference when spaces are tight.

The other thing most students do not know is that LASU gives a large portion of its admission spaces to Lagos State indigenes. If you are not an indigene, you are competing for fewer spaces, and the course you choose becomes the most important decision you will make. LASU does not use departmental cut-offs. The university cut-off is 195. Technically, anyone with 195 and above can apply for any course, but that does not mean you will get in. Picking a course with fewer applicants can be the difference between getting admitted and losing a full year.

JAMB Cut-Off Mark

195general minimum

LASU does not use departmental cut-offs. The only cut-off is the university-wide minimum of 195. If your JAMB score is 195 or above, you are eligible to apply for any course. But being eligible does not mean you will get in. LASU uses a 60/40 system where your JAMB score counts for 60% and your O’Level grades count for 40%. The higher your aggregate, the better your chances.

Post-UTME at LASU

LASU screens candidates using a 60/40 aggregate system. Your JAMB score counts for 60% and your O’Level grades count for 40%. LASU calculates this aggregate for every candidate and uses it to rank applicants for each course. Your admission depends entirely on your JAMB score, your O’Level grades, and the course you chose.

We know exactly what can go wrong, and more importantly, how to get it right. We've helped hundreds of students get admitted into LASU. We can help you too.

Why Students Miss LASU Admission

1

You assume that scoring above 195 in JAMB is enough to get any course at LASU. The cut-off of 195 only makes you eligible to apply. LASU calculates an aggregate using your JAMB score and your O’Level grades, and popular courses have far more eligible applicants than available spaces. If you pick the wrong course, your aggregate will not be high enough to compete.

2

You do not realise how much your O’Level grades matter at LASU. Your O’Level results count for 40% of your aggregate. Students with strong JAMB scores but weak O’Level grades consistently lose spaces to students whose O’Level grades are stronger.

3

Your name appears on the list but you are not checking consistently. The acceptance fee deadline passes and the slot goes to someone else.

Missed LASU’s Main List? There Are Two More Ways to Still Get Admitted That Same Year

After the main admission list closes, some departments at LASU still have spaces that nobody filled. When this happens, LASU publishes what is called a supplementary list to fill those spaces. If your scores were close to the cut-off, your name could appear on this list.

But there is also a second option most students never consider. LASU runs a part-time degree programme that has its own separate application, its own deadline, and its own requirements. It is a full degree, not a certificate.

Most students who miss the main admission go home and start planning to rewrite JAMB without knowing that either of these options existed. We help our students explore both.
