How to Register for JAMB UTME 2026
JAMB registration is not complicated. But it has specific steps that must be done in the right order. Getting any one of them wrong can waste your entire registration.
The most common mistakes students make: picking the wrong subject combination, buying an e-PIN from someone who is not authorised to sell it, and choosing a school whose cut-off point is higher than their realistic score.
None of these are hard to avoid. You just need to know about them before you go to the CBT centre.
The 5 Steps of JAMB Registration
Step 1: Create Your Profile Code
Your profile code is the first thing you need. You cannot buy an e-PIN or register without it.
To generate a new profile code:
- Open your messaging app
- Type: NIN then a space then your 11-digit NIN. Example: NIN 12345678901
- Send it to 55019 or 66019
- JAMB will reply with your profile code
Use your own SIM if you have one registered in your name. If you do not, use a SIM that belongs to someone close to you like a parent, sibling, or close friend. The phone number you send from is permanently tied to your JAMB account. Avoid using a random SIM or any number that the owner might lose track of.
If you registered with JAMB in a previous year, you already have a profile code. Send the word RESEND to 55019 from the same number you used before and JAMB will send it back to you.
Step 2: Buy Your JAMB e-PIN
The e-PIN is the code that activates your JAMB registration. Without it, no CBT centre can start your registration form.
Most CBT centres sell e-PINs on the spot. But that means joining a second queue before you can even start registration. Students who arrive during busy periods spend hours in the e-PIN queue before they even get to the registration queue.
If you buy your e-PIN before going to the centre, you skip that queue. You walk in, go straight to the registration queue.
Important things to know:
- It can only be used once
- Buy from an approved bank, a NIPOST office, a licensed mobile money agent, or Gift Consult
- Tell them whether you want UTME or Direct Entry. They have different e-PINs at different prices
- Do not buy from roadside vendors or people selling online without authorisation
If you end up with an invalid or already-used PIN, you cannot easily get a replacement when registration is busy. It is not a risk worth taking.
Gift Consult sells authentic JAMB e-PINs at the official JAMB rate through approved channels. Buy it from us before you go to the centre and skip the e-PIN queue.
Buy Your e-PINStep 3: Choose Your Subject Combination
This is where most students quietly ruin their entire registration without knowing it.
JAMB requires four subjects. English Language is always one of them. The other three must match what your intended course requires at your intended school.
Here is what happens when you get this wrong: you write the exam, score well, and then find out your subject combination does not match the requirements for your course. The school will not consider you. Not because your score was bad, but because you chose the wrong subjects. You wait a full year and start again.
This is not a small mistake. It happens to students every single year.
Every course has its own required combination. Medicine is different from Law. Law is different from Engineering. Engineering is different from Education. Before you sit at that CBT terminal, you need to know with certainty that the subjects you are choosing match your course.
Step 4: Choose Your First and Second Choice Schools
At registration, you choose a first choice school and course, and a second choice. You can change these later through JAMB CAPS but it costs time and money.
Choosing the right school means knowing three things:
- The minimum cut-off for your specific course at that school. Not just JAMB's general minimum, but that school's own cut-off for that department.
- Whether your O'Level subjects match what that school requires for your course.
- Whether the score you are likely to get is actually competitive enough.
A student who scores 230 and applies to UNILAG Medicine which requires 280 has wasted that registration. A student who applies to a school whose O'Level entry requirements they don't meet gets disqualified at screening even after gaining admission.
Getting steps 3 and 4 right is the difference between your registration working and your registration being wasted.
This is where Gift Consult comes in.
Steps 3 and 4 are the most important decisions in the entire registration process. They require someone who knows the exact subject requirements for your course, the real cut-off points at your target schools, and whether your O'Level combination actually qualifies you.
Gift Consult reviews all of this with you before you register. We have done this for over 1,000 students.
That is what the JAMB Registration Assistance service covers.
What is included:
- A review of your intended course and subject combination before registration
- School selection advice based on your O'Level results and realistic score
- e-PIN purchased and ready before you arrive at the centre

Register with Gift ConsultStep 5: Go to the CBT Centre
This step is already handled if you use Gift Consult's registration service. But if you are doing it yourself, here is what to bring:
- Your profile code
- Your valid e-PIN
- Your O'Level result if you already have it. Not required if you are registering as "Awaiting Result."
At the centre, the officer will take all ten of your fingerprints, take your photograph, and complete your registration form. When they are done, they will give you a registration slip. Keep it safe. Your registration number is on it and you will need it for everything that comes after.

4 Mistakes That Make Students Repeat JAMB
- 1
Picking the wrong subjects
You sit the exam, you score well, but your subject combination does not match your course. The school will not take you. You repeat.
- 2
Applying to a school your score cannot reach
You score 220 and apply to a school that gives your course to students with 260 and above. Your application goes nowhere and you lose the year.
- 3
Buying your e-PIN from someone who is not authorised to sell it
You get a PIN that has already been used or is not valid. Registration cannot go through and you cannot easily get a replacement.
- 4
Using a Random SIM card
The number tied to your JAMB account does not need to be yours, but it must belong to someone reliable. Use your own SIM if you have one. If not, use a parent’s, sibling’s, or close friend’s. If that SIM is lost and nobody can retrieve it, you lose access to your JAMB profile.
